There are many different types of grass seed and choosing the proper one is important. However it can get kind of confusing to someone without proper knowledge of the different cultivars. Here is a run down of the three most common cultivars used in our area.

Sunny Mix

Needs a minimum of 5-6 hours of sun. 
  • 15% Brooklawn Kentucky Bluegrass
  • 15% Bonaire Kentucky Bluegrass
  • 20% Park Kentucky Bluegrass
  • 20% Boreal Creeping Red Fescue
  • 30% Pizzazz Perennial Ryegrass
Apply 3lbs./1000 Feet for overseeding. Apply 6lbs./1000 Feet for spot seeding and turf renovation.

Sun-Shade Mix

Needs a minimum of 3-4 hours of sun.
  • 30% Brooklawn Kentucky Bluegrass
  • 20% Intrigue Chewing Fescue
  • 30% Boreal Creeping Red Fescue
  • 20% Evening Shade Tolerant Perennial Ryegrass
Apply 3lbs./1000 Feet for overseeding. Apply 6lbs./1000 Feet for spot seeding and turf renovation.

Dense Shade Mix

Less than 3 hours of sun but will only last for 1 or 2 seasons.
  • 40 % Creeping Red Fescue
  • 20% Chewing Fescue
  • 20% Evening Shade Perennial Ryegrass
  • 10% Brooklawn Kentucky Bluegrass
  • 10% Shade Tolerant Kentucky Bluegrass
